The Shape of Water

OMG!!! What a movie!!! Yeah, I just love it so damn much lol! But first, let’s get into the technical details.

  • Director: Guillermo del Toro
  • Story: Guillermo del Toro
  • Screenplay: Guillermo del Toro, Vanessa Taylor
  • Studio: Fox Searchlight Pictures
  • Main Cast: Sally Hawkins, Doug Jones, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Michael Stuhlberg, Richard Jenkins, etc.

The Shape of Water tells the love story of Elisa, a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore and a mysterious scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. Her life changes entirely from the moment she meets this loveable monster. They develop a very special and precious bond, one that’s heart-touching and simply beautiful. The story follows the brave and daring efforts of Elisa to rescue her beloved from the hands of the scientists who are hell-bent on killing the monster and studying him, and of course, their feelings for each other.

It’s simply a work of art, a masterpiece from Guillermo del Toro. From the moment it starts, the movie will hold you hooked on to it till the very last, and once it’s over, you will somehow wish that it wasn’t. It’s an exceptional experience, one that shows and teaches its viewers that if you want to do or achieve something, if you wish for it with all your heart, there will be away, no matter how insignificantly others may perceive you to be, even if you cannot talk or hear.

It’s one of those movies that lure its viewer to watch it more than once and trust me, you won’t tire of it. A movie that can be watched and experienced snuggling on the sofa with a mug of hot cocoa, a movie that warms the heart, that’s what it is to me.

If you are a fan of fantastical romances, then it will be a definite treat for you, and even if you aren’t a romantic, you will still enjoy it, because, it’s just amazing. It’s witty, charmingly beautiful and realistically magical.

On a scale of 5, I would rate it 4.75. Would you??
